It is designated as a national park in the mountainous district of the 10 mountains of 2,000 m-class.Rare animals, plants are inhabiting. It has been designated a wildlife sanctuary and natural protected areas of Japan. Also It is famous as the earliest autumn leaves in Japan. Winter is also famous as a ski resort. There are 14 hot springs as Sounkyo, Tenninkyo, Lake Shikaribetsu hot springs etc. in this area.
